Who Am I?

My name is Markus Richter. Born on April 27th, 1972 in Bocholt and grown up in a small town called Werth.

The roots of Werth go back to the year of 1260, where the knight family "von Werth" hosted. They used to have a castle, which does not exist anymore. Only a few base malls can still be seen. The existent of this castle has been official documented in 1318 for the first time. However, it is very likely that the knight family "van Werth" already lived there in 1260. The city of Werth used to have its own "town charter". Due to a state reform of North - Rhine Westphalia in 1975, Werth is now a district of the city Isselburg.

The windmill in Werth is one of the main highlights and pretty unique in Germany. Even within the Netherlands only a few of the windmills have adopted such a style. The uniqueness is based on the fact that the roof of this windmill can be turned This would allow the miller to mill the grain independently of wind directions, since he can adjust it. Also it is amazing that most of the wooden inside is still from 15century. How can wooden be so maintained? Well, in earlier times, people cut the trees and let them dry for 100 years. This means that people never cut the tree for their own, instead for the next generation. By applying such method, the wooden could be preserved
-> The "teeth" of a MOLE has been out of different wood. Simply because of rubbing the same material (same tree type, e.g. oak) causes unsmooth movement due to the same wood grain.

The windmill has been build within the 15. century. The exact year is unknown. However, the windmill has been officially documented in 1426, which makes it one of the oldest windmills in Germany. In earlier days, the windmill used to be a defense tower of the city wall. Until 1953 the windmill was really used to mill grain.
